Animal research plays an invaluable and legally mandated part in the development of medicines. It has advanced our understanding of health and disease, aiding the development of many modern medicines and treatments. The UK has among the highest standards in the world for the welfare of animals used in research, including a commitment to the 3Rs – the reduction, replacement and refinement of animals used in research.

A new film from the University of Cambridge looks at how mice are helping the fight against cancer and the facilities in which they are housed, and explores issues of animal welfare and the search for replacements.

For more information on the use of non-animal technologies, read our recent guest blog from Dr Anthony Holmes, Programme Manager – Technology Development at the NC3Rs.
